Nestled within the white sands and blue waters of Hutchinson Island, a South Florida barrier island known for its picturesque beaches, is the Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa. Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa is a beach lover’s oasis, secluded from the hustle and bustle of the popular South Florida coast, but with the exquisite attention to detail that warrants the elusive Opal Collection designation. Located in Jensen Beach, Florida, this resort can cater to your every need.
Kenny and I chose Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa for a Spring-time oceanside retreat to relax, rejuvenate, and rejoice after a long winter and celebrate our recent marriage with a minimoon. Opposed to taking a traditional honeymoon, Kenny and I have enjoyed various minimoons as a way to celebrate each other but also as a way to keep the celebration going! Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa was the perfect fit for us because we love South Florida and always seek out destinations with first-class amenities and service.
Our retreat started with a drive in from Orlando to Jensen Beach with our fur-baby, Penny. A dream for any Ohio girl is to take her fur-baby to the beach! Hutchinson Shores is not only part of the luxury Opal Collections brand; their Opal Paws program is designed to make sure your fur-baby has the same luxury experience as you. The drive down the coast was relaxing, and the weather seemed to get warmer, and the palm trees got more stunning as we approached our destination on Hutchinson Island.
A beautiful, secluded entrance, with 24/7 valet attendants greeted us upon our arrival. The concierge, Kelly, couldn’t have been friendlier. After a long day of travel, Kelly made our check-in a breeze, invited us to happy hour (which is from 3PM-6PM at all three onsite bars), and set us up with Penny’s Opal Paws bed and gift bag. While Penny enjoyed a refreshing treat, Kenny and I familiarized ourselves with the resort and settled into our ocean-front suite.
Every detail is curated for a one-of-a-kind experience at Hutchinson Shores. The custom sand sculptures, the art in the hallways, the suspended dolphin deco in the entry, to the live plants throughout the resort makes you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise. Our suite was no exception, with bright ocean-inspired colors, a large and luxurious bed, and sand-colored furniture. The walk-in rain shower and NEST toiletries elevated our suite to a level of luxury not typical at the beach.
Our first day started with a relaxing wind down on our balcony, enjoying a bottle of Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries – a gift sent up by the concierge. We then moved on to happy hour at the Dune Bar, located beachfront at one of the two heated pools on the property. The handcrafted cocktails and small plates offered during happy hour really hit the spot after a day of travel. From there, we retreated to our suite for a good night’s rest but not before we enjoyed delicious room service.
Nothing beats waking up to a sunrise over the ocean horizon. After enjoying a spectacular view of the sunrise with a cup of the in-suite Keurig coffee, we headed back to Dune’s Bar for breakfast by the beach. The staff was very accommodating with our fur-baby Penny and even brought her a bowl of water and fresh fruit. Kenny enjoyed an “Oceanside,” a handcrafted Bloody Mary with Tito’s Vodka as I enjoyed the sound of the waves crashing from our outside table. For breakfast, you have to try to Crab Cake Benedict – it’s the best that I have ever had.
After breakfast, we made our way to the white sands of the remote beach that Hutchinson Shores sits on. A friendly face – another Hutchinson Shores concierge, greeted us on the beach and made sure we had fresh towels and clean chairs, a service offered daily for resort guests. The beach is simply amazing. It’s calm, beautiful, and provides the landscape to truly relax and disconnect.
For a more lively environment, head over to Reflections Pool Bar located at the resorts larger of two pools. Reflections Pool Bar offers a spacious sundeck, generous bar and lounge area, Jacuzzis, and fire pits, all with the hip vibe provided by today’s trendiest music. The bar staff is there to serve you from your lounge chair, the pool, or from the comfort of the bar. The local beer and top-shelf liquors will undoubtedly keep the party going.
On our second day, we indulged in the signature spa experience, the Opal Oasis Massage. A tranquil and soothing experience, the custom oils and individualized attention are what we needed as part of our retreat. It was only fitting that after a day of luxurious spa treatment that we continued the celebration with a seaside meal at one of Hutchinson Island’s best seaside restaurants, Drift Bar and Kitchen, conveniently located onsite at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa.
Kenny enjoyed a handcrafted martini with fresh Grouper. I enjoyed Day Boat Scallops paired with an elegant white wine from the restaurant’s collection. The Chef will be the first to tell you that even though they have some of the area’s best fresh seafood, there is a dish for everyone. They make their own pasta on site, have a wood-fired pizza oven, and serve a variety of dishes – all to a quality you would expect in a five-star restaurant.
Our retreat at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa was a trip defined by delicious and fresh food, relaxing days at the beach, happy-hours by the pool, luxurious pampering, and the best service we have experienced. When we weren’t enjoying the resort, we were discovering new places and people in the quaint towns of Jensen Beach, Stuart, and Port St. Lucie. With all the possibilities at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa, one can understand why people are enamored with the secluded, coastal-chic paradise.
